Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to monitor and conduct maintenance to ensure the integrity of power generation civil assets. Civil asset maintenance strategies are used to preserve and extend the service life of infrastructure. Civil assets may include infrastructuresuch as water treatment facilities, sewer pipelines, roads, utility grids, bridges, tunnels and railways. Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, monitor civil assets, maintain civil assets and the completion of all work. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator, in a power generation facility.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Element: Monitor civil assets
  • Monitoring frequency of civil assets is determined, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements
  • Check list for civil asset monitoring is maintained, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements
  • Abnormal events or conditions are reported to appropriate personnel, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements

  • Appropriate tools, equipment and/or plant required to maintain civil assets is utilised, in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturers' specifications

  • Maintenance work is completed and appropriate personnel are notified, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements
  • Work area is cleared of waste, cleaned, restored and secured, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements
  • Civil asset maintenance tools and equipment are maintained and stored, in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturers' specifications
  • Work completion details are finalised, in accordance with workplace procedures

Assessment Tasks
